Daily Announcements for Tuesday, September 29th 2009

Any boy’s hockey players wishing to try out for the high school men’s hockey team must see Mr. Leger for a form and a schedule. The first try out is October 1st.

Any students who are interested in helping plan dances are invited to attend a brief meeting in Miss Cook’s room 2052 on Wednesday at 12:15.

Last night the SRHS field hockey team defeated Oromocto High by a core of 5-2. Ashley Smilie had 4 assists, and Larissa Verhoever added on, on 2 goals by Ally Muir, and 3 goals by Brittany Mallory.

Improv Club will begin today at 3:30 in the theatre. All new comers welcome!

Voting for your Grade 9 VP started at noon hour today and will conclude tomorrow at noon.

International Relations Club – Are you interested in learning about people from other countries around the world? Do you want to help those who are underprivileged? Do you have a social conscience? If so, come to the International Relations Club Tuesdays at noon. Bring you lunch to the distance Ed. lab, room 1117. Hope to see you there next Tuesday.

Daily Announcements for Monday September 28

Any boy’s hockey players wishing to try-out for the High School Men’s hockey team must see Mr. Leger for a form and a schedule. The first try-out is October 1st.

The Sussex Football Sonics improved their record to 3-0 Saturday with a 21-14 win over the Mathieu-Martin Matadors in Dieppe. The Sonics led 1-0 on a 34 yard missed field goal attempt by Aaron Tabor in the first quarter. A late 26 yard end zone catch gave Mathieu-Martin a 7-1 halftime lead. Sussex took the opening drive of the second half and scored a touchdown on an 11 yard pass and run from Aaron Tabor to Mike Brown. Aaron Tabor’s extra point gave Sussex an 8-7 lead. The Sonics scored again in the third quarter on a 2 yard run by Colin Urquhart. The missed convert made it a 14-7 game. The Sonics increased their lead in the fourth quarter to 21-7 on a 48 yard touchdown reception by Mike Brown from quarterback Aaron Tabor. Aaron Tabor was good on the extra point attempt. The Matadors scored late in the game to bring the final score to 21-14. The Sonics return to their home field on Saturday, October 3, as they face their rivals from KVHS at 1:00.

Last weeks recipients of the Sonic of the Week Award are Leann Crouse, for helping out in homeroom, and Elizabeth Sargeant and Ben Murray for their excellent participation in English class. Last week’s staff award goes to Mr. Gaunce and Mrs. Gillies for their help in organizing the Grad potluck. Congratulations!

The Green Club met today at 12:20 in Mme Belliveau’s class.

Any Grads interested in helping with safe grad should see Mr. MacKay.

The SRHS Sonics softball team defeated the KVHS Crusaders 18-16 in a southern conference quarter-final game on Saturday. Brianna Church got the win to improve her record to 3-2 on the season while Christine Waterston picked up the save striking out the last hitter with 2 runners in scoring position. CJ Mitton had 2 big hits driving in 4 runs. Trailing 12-11 after 4 innings the Sonics once again scored 7 runs in the top of the 5th inning. All members of the softball team met briefly in Mr. Belyeas’s room today at noon.

Today is the last day to submit your nomination to run for grade 9 VP. Please submit you application to Mr. Belyea by 3:30 pm today.

Daily Announcements for Thursday September 24 2009

Just a reminder to Yearbook Photographers that there will be a training session after school today. Please meet in the Foods Lab at 3:30.

Are you a Grade 12 student interested in aviation? If you are, please see Mrs. Byers for an opportunity to attend a dinner celebrating 100 years of flight in Canada.

The inprov club will be meeting every Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30 in the theatre starting next week on September 29th. No experience necessary. Everyone is welcome.

Last night the SRHS field hockey team played Harborview High and finished with a 0-0 tie. Tonight at 5:00 the team hosts Oromocto High. Come out to show your Sonic spirit.

Daily Announcements for Wednesday September 23 2009

Attention All Grads!

This evening at 6 o’clock we will be holding a Grad pot Luck! This will be our first chance to celebrate our last year together with lots of delicious food. If you are able to bring a dish with you please do. We encourage all grads to do their best to make it to this event – the more the merrier! If you have any further questions, ask Mr. Gaunce, Mrs. Gillies or someone at the sing up both. Hope to see you there!

Leo Hayes High School is holding a co-ed ob-ball tournament for grads only. If you are interested in entering a team please see the ad on the Phys Ed bulletin board.

The Sussex Sonics Varsity Girls Softball Team defeated the previously unbeaten St Malachi Saints 8 – 7 on Tuesday night in Sussex. Brianna Church go the win (6 strikeouts). The Conics are now 3 and 3 on the season. High lights of the game include Morgan McFarlane-Winchester’s 3 run homerun during a 7 run outburst from the Sonics in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jasmine Hebert had a triple and a RBI, Christine Waterston had a double and a RBI, and Haylee Rae a single and a double and a RBI all had great nights at the plate for the Sonics in the win. The Sonics travel to ST. Stephen on Wednesday to finish up the regular season. Christine Waterston will take the mound for the Sonics in that game.

Student Council is still selling Ball Caps, Mugs, and Hockey Tickets in the lobby at noon. School clothing is on its way very soon!

This evening the Sonics field hockey team hosts Harborview High School. Come on out and show your support.

The Terry Fox Run will take place this Friday morning. Grade 9’s and 10’s will be walking during period 1 and Grade 11’s and 12’s during period 3. Following the walk there will be a noon BBQ with Ice Cream as well as live music. Bring your loonies and toonies and help reach the goal of 1 dollar per student.

Daily Announcements for Monday, September 21st

All students interested in travelling to New York City this March break must attend an important meeting this Thursday night at 7 pm at the 8th Hussars (upstairs). Be sure to bring your parents, See Mrs. Hill for details.

There will be a Green Club meeting today at 12:20 in Mme Belliveau’s class 1123. Important that all new and returning members be present.

There will be a brief meeting for last year’s improv team today at 12:15 in room 2034. Information about this year’s improv activities will be announced at a later date.

There will be a brief meeting for all band students at 12:15 today in Mrs. Eisner’s room 2024.

The SRHS field hockey team lost on Friday night to Rothesay Netherwood. Sabrina Rodgers scored the single goal for Sussex. All field hockey players are reminded that we have practice today after school. Please be on the field by 3:50.

Hockey fans do we have a deal for you! We currently have 21 Saint John Sea dog Tickets for their game against the Moncton Wildcats this Sunday Sept. 27th at 4:00 pm. We are selling the tickets today in the lobby for $10.00 a piece or two for $18.00. The proceeds will be donated to the Terry Fox Fund.

Also being sold in the lobby today at noon for the ridiculously low price of $12.00 are the very stylish SRHS ball caps.

They’re back after 4 long years the very hot SRHS mugs are also on sale in the lobby today for the low price of $6.00.

Grade 9 students interested in running for grade 9 VP can pick up nomination forms in the lobby today at the student council booth.

Daily Announcements for Thursday September 17th 2009

There will be an organizational meeting for last year’s improve team on Monday at 12:30 in room 2034.

The SRHS field hockey team started their season last night with a 2-2 tie against St. Mac’s. Both Sonics goals were scored by Brittany Mallory. Anyone who wants to come out and support the team can do so at 5:00 tonight as the team hosts K.V. High. See you there!

Tryouts for the Sussex Sonics under 18 girls volleyball team will take place on Sunday, September 20th at 7pm. This tryout is for girls who have played competitive volleyball in the past and are going into grade 10, 11, or 12.

Indigo Books from Saint John will be in the lobby from 3:30 until 8pm today. They will be selling books by Sally Armstrong who will be visiting SRHS November 3rd. Get your copy of “Nine Lives of Charlotte Taylor”, or her 2 books on Human Rights in Afghanistan.

In the main locker are, there are locks on the wrong lockers. Please remove them before Friday or they will be cut off. The locker numbers are: 621, 623, 624, 625, 626, 627, 628, 629, 456, 663 and 664.

Live Fire Youth Group meets this evening at Sussex Baptist Church at 7pm.

The varsity girls softball team defeated Harbour View last night 21 to 9. Christine Waterston got the win improving her record to 1 and 1 for the season. She also had 10 strikeouts. Offensively, Morgan Johnston led the way with 4 hits, 2 stolen bases, 3 RBI’s and reached base 5 times, while Jasmine Hebert had 2 hits, 1RBI and reached base 3 times. Emily Hawthorne also had 2 hits and an RBI and reached base 5 times. The Sonics are now 2 and 1 overall in league play. Practice tonight after school at 4:15 pm at Carr Field.

Daily Announcements for September 16th 2009

There will be a Green Club meeting today at 12:20 in Mme Belliveau’s class 1123 for old and new members. Everyone is welcome.

Could all members of the varsity girls softball team please meet briefly after the announcements in Mr. Belyea’s room.

There will be no Key Club today at noon. Key Cub will start next Wednesday the 23rd at 12:20 in Mrs. Lauridsen’s room.

Tonight at 5:00 the SRHS field hockey team plays their first game of the season. Everyone is invited to come out and show their Sonic spirit and cheer on the team. Field hockey players are reminded to meet by the gym immediately after school.

It is grad photo time. Oaktree Photography will be here Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. If you want to have your photo taken then you can sign up in the office now. Oaktree will be here again in October if you miss the first round of pictures.
