Safe Grad tickets will be on sale this week at noon in the lobby. Tickets are $25 each. Cash only please.

There was a Safe Grad meeting, a Grad Choir practice and a Student Council meeting today at noon.

Student Council speeches for treasurer and grade 11 VP will be held tomorrow at noon with elections on Wednesday and Thursday at noon.

All members of the varsity girls softball team except for our current grade 12 players attended a brief meeting right after announcements today.

Mr. Ross will be in the music room after school for band practice. All members please be present.

Fine Arts Night is tomorrow night. Be sure to check it out beginning at 6:30. Art displays, music, dance, bands and the award winning play “Boy Mets Girl” – all for a donation at the door. Refreshments will be served. Don’t miss it and tell your friends and family

Attention Grads – Prom tickets will be on sale this Tuesday and Wednesday this week. You must buy your tickets if you plan to attend the prom. Tickets are $12.50 each.

At noon hour on Tuesday, June 1st, there will be a Service Canada Employment for Youth booth, set up in the lobby. Students will have the opportunity to explore what job prospects are available in the Sussex area for teens. Stop by and take advantage of this service.

This week’s Sonics of the week are Liam Keith-Jacques and the SRHS Ladies Volleyball team. After winning his grade category at the provincial chess tournament held in Dieppe on Saturday, April 10, 2010, Liam Keith-Jacques advanced to the Canadian Chess Challenge National tournament. The national tournament was held in Montreal on May 17=6-17, 2010. Liam did SRHS, School District 6 and the province proud by placing 2nd in his grade 10 category at this national event. A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS LIAM!!! We would like to celebrate the SRHS Ladies Volleyball team for placing 2nd in the NB provincial volley ball tournament. Congratulations ladies! We are very proud of you. This week we would also like to celebrate 2 honourary Sonics of the Week, Bonnie Tabor and Scott Hoyt. Bonnie and Scott are being celebrated for kindly coming to SRHS this week to present the P.A.R.T.Y presentation and for sharing their experiences with our students. They taught us that we all play a role in preventing trauma in youth. A big thank you goes out to them!

Mme. Betts’ advisory class will host a BBQ on Tuesday June 1st to raise money for the “Relay for Life”. Please join us in front of the school at noon on Tuesday.

A copy of the Grad composite is now in the office. Grads are asked to check the spelling of their name. If there are any problems please see Mr. Gaunce in room 2057. If your picture isn’t on the composite but you want it on please see Mr. Gaunce by tomorrow.

Special mid-week Sonic of the week for teachers!!! Firstly, Miss MacLeod, who was so hospitable in giving up her classroom for the morning presentation, thank you. Secondly, Mr. Barton and Miss Kamminga for allowing their students to attend, thanks. Thirdly, Mr. Robertson for supervising, thank you and finally, thank you to Mrs. Klingenberg for sharing her classroom third period. The presentation was AMAZING!

There was a Prom decorators meeting, a student council meeting, a Dance committee meeting, a Safe Grad meeting, a Relay for Life meeting and a Reach for the Top meeting all today a noon. My, we are a busy school!

Don’t forget about the Luau in the Cafeteria on Friday at 7:30. Grade 9’s be sure to come to the dance well rested.

Attention Graduates – Corridor Resources Scholarships are available to graduates living in the areas of Penobsquis, Knightville, and Plumsweep heading off to university or college next year. Applications are available in the guidance office and the deadline is Friday, May 28.

Saint Thomas University is offering a Learning for Success Programme and is now accepting applicants. STU realizes students don’t always meet their learning potential while in high school, and have created a program for the students who have an average of 60-69% on English 122 and four approved academic courses. If you are interested in university and would like a grogram that offers academic support, and a reduced course load to make the transition easier, pleas see Mrs. Byers in the Guidance Centre.

The choir for the graduation church service is rehearsing Thursday at noon. Please be on time so we can be quick.

A reminder to all interested in playing High School football in the fall to PLEASE get your forms returned to either Mr. Coughlan or Mr. Titus ASAP (by the end of the week if possible).

The Sussex Sonics boys ruby team posted two huge wins over the weekend. On Thursday, the Sonics defeated KV by a score of 33-17. Sam Murray led the way with 3 tries, while Zach Folkins, Ira Sheasby and Brendon “Bam Bam” McPHee each chipped in with one. On Saturday the Sonics defeated Fundy in the first round of their playoffs by a score of 22-12. Sam Murray, Jon Anderson, Mike Morrison and Steve Carr each had a try. The Sonics will now play a team to be named later in the second round of the playoffs. GOOD LUCK BOYS!

All Green Club Members interested in going to Tree-Go met with Mme. Bonnell at noon today.

There was a Prom Committee meeting in Mme Bonnell’s room and band practice with Mr. Ross at noon today,

Students who have artwork to be framed for Fine Arts Night please bring it in to Mrs. Hill or Mrs. Eisner a.s.a.p. Also, this is the last week to check out the student art show at the Sussex Artists Coop.

All library books must be returned to the school library by June 1st. Lost books must be paid for.

Prom tickets are on sale all week from 12:30 to 1. You must buy tickets if you plan on attending the prom. Tickets are $12.50 each.

We are beginning to collect Safe Grad fees on Tuesday in the lobby. Fees are $25 cash only please. Any questions see Mr. MacKay in Room 2096.

The Sussex Sonics rugby team host KV tonight at 5:30pm in their last regular season game. All fans are encouraged to come out and see the hard hitting action.

Any JV Boys Basketball players who are interested in going to the St. FX Basketball clinic here at SRHS on Monday met with Mr. Barton in the gym at noon.

This week’s Sonics of the week are Aaron Tabor and The SRHS ladies volley-ball team. Aaron is being celebrated for receiving the Raymond Legere Sportsmanship Award for the Southern Conference. It is given to athletes who have shown outstanding qualities of sportsmanship throughout the year. Aaron was hounoured at a luncheon in Fredericton on Wednesday. Congratulations Aaron. The SRHS ladies volleyball team is being celebrated for placing first at Regionals this past weekend. Congratulations on your success ladies.

There was a dance committee meeting and a grad choir practice today at noon.

Tuesday, May 25 is an In-School Day for Coop students.

There was a Grad Choir practice, a Safe Grad meeting, a Prom Committee meeting and a Green Club meeting today at noon.

Student Council Presidential speeches were today at noon and the election will be tomorrow and Wednesday.

There will be band practice after school today with Mr. Ross.

The SRHS Lady Sonics volleyball team captured top spot at the South-West Regional playoff on Saturday. The Sonics defeated Edmunston, Simonds and Oromocto in the round robin and then defeated Fredericton high in the final. The Sonics travel to Bathurst this weekend to participate in the NBIAA Championship. Good Luck Girls.

The SRHS Sonics Rugby team lost 15-5 to Rothesay on Saturday. Mitch Folkins scored the lone try for Sussex, who are now 1-3 on the season. The Sonics play KV at home at 5:30 this Thursday for their last game of the regular season.

Today is the deadline for Dairy Town Classic camp registration. Any registrations after today will be subject to a $10 late fee. Forms can still be picked up in Mr. Barton or Mr. Jeffrey’s rooms.

There was a Rugby meeting, a Safe Grad meeting and a Green Club meeting today at noon.

There is a brief but very important meeting tomorrow, Friday May 14th at 12:20 in Mr. Coughlin’s room (1128) regarding anyone interested in playing high school football next fall!

Minor Ball Announcement – Sussex and District Minor Ball are still accepting ball players for Girls Softball and Competitive Baseball this summer. Currently, only 2 more spots will be made available on the Midget Baseball team (15, 16 and 17 year olds). Midget Baseball practices are Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights at 6pm at the Lions Field at Sussex Corner directly beside the Elementary School. Registration forms are available at Sussex Source for Sports. See you on the field!
