The Sussex Sonics softball team qualified for regional’s this weekend by defeating Rothesay 14 to 4 last night. Brianna Church tossed a 5 inning 1 hitter for the win while Jenna Dunfield, Brooklyn Hodgin, and Morgan Johnston each had a great day at the plate. The Sonics travel to memorial field tonight to play in the Southern Conference Championship game at 7:30 pm. The girls are to meet at the school for 5:00 pm as we have the bus.

There was a meeting for all Junior Varsity girls soccer in Ms. Kamminga’s room at noon today.

There was a Reach for the Top practice today at noon.

There was a brief Improv meeting, a Green Club meeting and a Safe Grad meeting today at noon.

The SRHS Senior Girls Soccer team recorded their second win for the week defeating Simonds High 3-0 Wednesday evening. Minutes into the match Geena Oxford was awarded a free kick from just outside the 18 yeard box that she curved into the far post mesh. Sarah Holt and Madison Urquhart tallied with the Sonics 2nd and 3rd goals. Ellen sharp0 held down the Sussex goal keeping responsibilities denying the SeaBees any scoring opportunities.

The varsity girls softball team play host to Rothesay tonight at 5:00 pm at MacAfee Field. This is a semi-final playoff game with the winner going on to regional’s in Fredericton. Come on out and support our softball team!

Tuesday evening the visiting Sonics were defeated 2-0 by St Malachy’s. The boys soccer season continues with a home game vs Simonds on Thursday, kickoff is at 5:00.

Grad wear will be on sale again Thursday and Friday.

There was a dance committee meeting today at noon.

Reminder to boys hockey that your form must be in by Friday to be able to be on the ice on Saturday. First tryout for is Saturday at 8:30 pm.

Mark Wednesday October 6th on your calendars and come out to the Homecoming dance. The video and laser dance will run from 7-10 pm and will only cost $5.

Two further announcements for Tuesday, September 28, 2010.

The Field Hockey Team tied last night against Oromocto 2-2. Goals were scored by Sabrina Rodgers and Kelly Steeves and an excellent game was played by Emily Hawthorne and Megan Mitton.

The Varsity Girls soccer Team posted a resounding 5-0 win over St. Macs last night. Geena Oxford opened the scoring with a blazing strike from half. Madison Urquhart scored a break away goal giving the girls a 2-0 lead at halftime. Tessa Brame pounded a solid corner kick that the Saints goal keeper could not hold onto for the third goal. Sarah Holt was good for two with the second being a beautiful header off a Brittany Wallace cross. Madeline Belding and Ellen sharp shared the shut out. The girls play at home Wed. night vs Simonds.

The softball game for tonight has been cancelled and will be played tomorrow at 5:00 pm at Carr Field. Softball practice will be in the gym tonight from 4:00 to 5:30 pm.

There are improv try-outs tomorrow.

There was a Tech Crew meeting today at noon in the projection room.

Sonics Softball team defeat Simonds 16 to 0 in Southern Conference Quarter-Final action on Saturday. Brianna Church pitched a 5 inning no-hitter, and struck out 7 for the win. CJ Mitton had a big day at the plate with a triple and a

grand slam homerun, she finished with 6 RBI’s. Brooklyn Hodgin also had an impressive day with a single and a double along with 4 RBI’s. Next playoff game is this Tuesday at 5:00 pm at Carr Field in Sussex.

The Tryouts for Girls Varsity Hockey are scheduled as follows;

Saturday, Oct. 2nd at 6:45pm

Saturday, Oct. 9th at 6:45pm

Saturday, Oct. 16th at 6:45pm

Saturday, Oct. 23rd at 6:45pm

Saturday, Oct. 30th at 6:45pm

All girls should have a signed Waiver Card prior to the first tryout this Saturday. If you need a waiver card please see Mr. Legere.

(Friday) On Thursday evening the Boys Soccer Team extended their winning season while visiting the Belleisle Bears. The exhibition match ended with a 6-2 win for the Sonics. Regular conference play continues next Tuesday as the Sonics visit St Macs – the only other team with a perfect record in the 2010 season.

(Friday) The Sussex Sonics Softball team defeated Saint John High 13 to 1 in their final regular season game to secure the second seed in the southern conference playoffs. Brianna Church pitched 5 innings, struck out 10, and scattered 3 hits for the win. Brooklyn Hodgin exploded offensively going 3 for 3 with a double and driving in 5 RBI’s.

The Sonics host Simonds in playoffs on Saturday at 1:00 PM at Carr Field. Get out and support your Sonics!

There was a meeting today at noon in Mr. Polley’s room for the cast of Anonymous.

Sibling pictures were taken today at the beginning of noon in the courtyard.

The SRHS boys captured their second straight AAA Boy’s Golf Provincial Championship Saturday at Pine Needles Golf Course in Shediac. Sussex team score was 228, 13 strokes ahead of second place Fredericton High School with 241. Sussex had the Top 3 AAA low gross scores for the tournament as well. Great showing by a great bunch of guys!

All boys who are interested in playing hockey met with Mr. Leger today at noon.

There was a metal club meeting today at noon. This week’s theme was your favorite metal song.

Robert Dunfield ran for three touchdowns, Avery Norwood added one, Cameron Holmes scored on an 80 yard interception return, Mike Morrison added three extra-points, and the Sonics defense shut down the Simonds Seabees, giving the Sonics a 33-0 win on Saturday. WAY TO GO SONICS!

The varsity girls softball team are playing there last regular season game tonight at 5:00 pm at Carr Field against Saint John High come on out and enjoy the grand old game!

Congratulations to the JV soccer girls on their first win of the season to Fundy High – 2-0.

Girls Field Hockey have a home game tonight at 5:00. Please come out and cheer on your Sonics.

A skilled KVHS squad was out worked by the visiting SRHS Sonics Boys Varsity Soccer team. The only casualty of the match was Blair Doull’s shutout streak. The Sonics had played 204 consecutive minutes before allowing a goal by an opposing team. Defenders Kyle Reid, Kevin Armstrong and Andrew McLean consistently disrupted KV’s efforts to create shooting opportunities. SRHS’ goals were scored by Bart Pijneburg (2) and Nick Huggard. Final score was 3-1 for the Sonics.

The varsity girls softball team traveled to KVHS last night and defeated the Crusaders 9 to 4. Brianna Church pitched a complete game 4 hitter striking out 13, while driving 2 runs in as well, Morgan Johnston and Brooklyn Hodgin also had 2 RBI’s each. The girls play their last regular season game on Thursday as they take on Saint John High at 5:00 pm. It’s Senior Day, come on out to cheer on Jade Baxendale, Kendall Bacon, Brooklyn Hodgin, Haylee Rae, & Cassie Snyder as they play in their last regular season home game as a sonic.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is Tight and Bright is dress up day. All students are encouraged to dress up nice and bright. Please remember that the dress code still applies. BE BRIGHT BUT NOT RISQUE!

Boys’ soccer practice is cancelled for today.

All girls trying out for the girls high school hockey team were asked to meet in Mr. Leger’s room 2010 for a quick meeting after the announcements.

There will be a yearbook meeting after school today in Mrs. Wilson’s room.

There will be an Improv practice today at 3:40.

All boys soccer players who are interested in plying against BRHS tomorrow please see Kevin Armstrong before the end of the day. If there is not enough interest, there will not be a game so make sure you contact Kevin as soon as possible.

The Quebec English speaking universities: Bishops, Concordia and McGill will be here, Wed. Sept 22 from 9:00 – 10:00 am. This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain an understanding of university preparation. If you are interested please sign up in the guidance centre.

The first safe grad meeting of the year will be Thursday at 12:45 in room 2097- Mr. MacKay’s room. Any potential Grads are welcome.

There will be a yearbook meeting Wednesday, September 22, after school in Mrs. Wilson’s room 2011.

Tight and Bright is Thursday and is now for all grades! Wear your tightest and brightest clothes!! All Grads will meet in the lobby at lunch for a tight and bright grad picture!

Improv practice is tomorrow, Wednesday, September 22, at 3:40.

Epic Youth will be putting on Epic coffee House this Sunday, September 26th from 7 to 9 pm, upstairs at the 8th Hussars rink. There will be music, snacks and drinks. The event is FREE and open to all high school students.

The varsity girls softball team lost in the final of their tournament on Sunday to Harbour View 14-13. Earlier in the day we defeated KVHS 7-5 and Fredericton 13-5. It was a great experience for everyone and all of our Sonics now have at least 1 hit this season. Just a reminder that practice is at 4:15 pm sharp today at Carr Field.

Attention Grads of 2011. Classique Rings was here today to sell graduation rings in the theatre at noon hour. A &60 deposit is required when ordering. Classique will be here tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 21st again to sell grad rings. Come out and get your forever lasting memory.

There was a football meeting today at noon for ALL football players, Bantam and High School, in Mr. Coughlan’s room.

There was a student council meeting today at noon.

Your SRHS football Sonics evened their record to 1-1 on Saturday with a 13-1 win over the Olympiens of Ecole L’Odyssee. A large crowd on a beautiful day for football saw a stubborn sonic defense hold the Moncton school to a single point. Sonic touchdowns were scored on a 12-yard run by Robert Dunfield and a 1-yard plunge by quarterback Colin Urquhart. Mike Morrison was 1-for-2 on extra-point tries. The Sonics’ next game is in Saint John this Saturday, September 25, against the Simonds Seabees. Kickoff time is 1pm. Good Luck Boys! Go Sonics!

Students in grades 9 or 10 who are no longer able to play Bantam football are invited to talk with Mr. Coughlan or Mr. Titus about the possibility of playing high school football this season. Space is limited, but you may be able to continue playing football this season as a Sonic.

ATTENTION GRADS – Be sure to stop by in the main office to sign up for your Grad Photos with Oak Tree Photography. Photos will be taken next Thursday, September 30th and Friday, October 1st. Additional sessions will be available so stay tuned to our noon announcements.

The improve team will have there first practise tomorrow from 3:40-4:45.

Auditions will be held this Thursday after school for the play “Anonymous”. For more information or for audition sign-up. Please see the bulletin board next to the theatre doors.

The varsity girls softball team traveled to Saint John last night and defeated St.Macs 19 to 5. Brianna Church pitched 5 innings striking out 10, and tossed a 2 hitter. Cassie Snyder drove in 4 runs, while Brianna Church & Jenna Dunfield drove in 3 runs. The next home game is this Saturday at 11:00 am. The Sonic are also hosting a tournament this Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Carr, Eagles, & Federal Field. So come on out

The Sonics Boys’ Soccer team played their first home game of the season on Thursday against a talented and quick Saint John High School squad. Hard work by our side created opportunities in the Greyhounds’ end and Bart Pijneburg scored twice in the first half. A determined effort by our defenders and some bold goalkeeping by Blair Doull kept the visitors off the score sheet. Second half Sonic goals came from Ira Sheasby and Bart Pijneburg for a final score of 4-0.

There will be no run tonight for the girls Soccer team. Practice at 9am Saturday morning – Bring running shoes.

It’s supposed to be sunny tomorrow, so come on out to cheer on your Sonics as they tackle the L’Odysee Olympiens. Kickoff time is 12 noon. We’ll see you there! Go Sonics!
