This week’s sonic of the week awards go to Mariah Corbett, Charles Goddard and Jeb Perry. Mariah is being celebrated for her awsome choreography for the Rememberance Day Ceremony. Jeb and Charles are being celebrated for all their help in the theatre. This week’s Staff Sonic Award goes to Mr. Leger for his leadership and dedication as the SRHS Soccer Coach. Thanks for all you do!

A reminder to Co op students that Monday November 2, is an in school day.

Safe grad will be holding a spaghetti supper on Tuesday, November 3rd at 6pm. All are welcome. Tickets are $5.00 each and were on sale in the lobby today, and will be on sale again Monday and Tuesday.

Tulips were planted at the end of noon today.

Daily Announcements for Thursday October 29, 2009

The suicide Prevention and Awareness Committee met today at noon in Mr. Scott’s room.

There was an important Green Club meeting today im Mme Beliveau’s class.

There is an improv team meeting today at 3:30 in the theatre.

The book club met today in Mr. Price’s classroom.

Grad Best Friend pictures will be taken Tuesday November 3rd and Thursday November 5th at lunch in the courtyard. Also, if you missed out on getting your sibling picture taken, you can get that done on Thursday, November 5th at lunch in the courtyard.

This Friday will be Halloween Theme Day at SRHS! Dress up in a costume (no masks) and participate in all the activities going on at lunch – pumpkin carving contest, blood drinking contest, and a prize for best costume.

Anyone iterested in doing trick-or-eat this Halloween please sign up in the office. We need all the help we can get!

Human rights activist, journalist, and author Sally Armstrong will be visiting our school on November 3. Here is alittle known fact about human rights violations: In Afghanistan, if a woman is caught wearing nail polish, the tips of her fingers will be cut off. A child dies every 30 seconds from malnutritio, poor living conditions and childhood diseases.

Operation Christmas Child!!! Thank you fro helping with the Christmas boxes this year, and don’t forget to bring in more items to fill ALL the boxes. If you can’t bring items in, you can donate money for postage and handling. Ask you parents tonight what you can donate, because our dedline is Monday November 2nd. We will be collecting your boxes on Tuesday morning November 3rd during SSR. Some item suggestions are: stuffed animals, small musical instruments, hair clips, toy jewelry, t-shirts, socks, hard candy, soap in a plastic bag. Please do not include food, soft candy, shampoo, creams, war related items, miirrors and no used items please. Maybe even a personal note, wishing them a Merry Christmas. Thank you for your generosity in helping those less frotunate receive a Christmas gift.

JV Girls Basketball tryouts tonight at 5:30 PM in the Gymnasium.

MERGE presents Half-Time – A free lunch is being provided upstairs at the Hockey arena during lunch hour every Tuesday. Everyone is invited and lunch is free.

Sally Armstrong – Human Rights, Human Wrongs – Public Reception

On Monday, November 2nd, at 7p.m. the SRHS “Human Rights, Human Wrongs Initiative”- Community Partners will be hosting a COMMUNITY RECEPTION at the Sussex Lion’s Den to hear journalist Sally Armstrong and discuss her books, documentaries, and human rights work.

Following her presentation, our Community Partners will be providing a unique“100-Mile Diet” potluck, featuring a wide variety of foods and products produced locally. Guests will be given the opportunity to contribute to this Breaking Bread fund-raiser which helps to pay the $750 annual salary

for teachers in Afghan girls’ schools.

SRHS school projects in art and music will be displayed, including “The Power of One”, a composite art installation created by 100 students. This will be an opportunity for the whole community to meet Sally Armstrong, purchase books from Indigo, donate to the Breaking Bread Fund, and realize how the

“power of one” can truly make a difference in the world.

Report Cards go home to parents on Monday, Nov 2, 2009.

Friday November 6 is a student free day – with Parent Teacher Student Conferences for high schools and school based PD for K-8 teachers.

The times for Parent teacher are Thursday, Nov 5 (4:30-7:00 PM) and Friday, Nov 6 (9:00 – 11:30 AM) by appointment. The telephone numbers to call for an appointment will be on your child’s report card.

Skilled Trades and Technology Week

Next week is a provincial, “Skilled Trades and Technology Week,” and we learned late yesterday we may have a couple of MLA’s visiting SRHS next week.

School District 6 is pleased to announce a week dedicated to helping young people plan for their future and make better informed career and post-secondary decisions.

“Post-Secondary Days” will take place on Monday, November 2nd at Sussex Regional High School and Wednesday, November 4th and Thursday, November 5th, at HMCS Brunswicker in Saint John. Representatives from various universities, colleges and private training schools will be on hand to meet with local high school students to answer questions and provide information relating to their specific interests. Parents are invited to attend on Wednesday evening @ 7:00 p.m. at the Brunswicker.

“Take Our Kids To Work Day” is on Wednesday, November 4th and will provide Grade 9 students with an opportunity to spend the day at a parent’s workplace to give them real-life experience in a work environment.

Girls Soccer

Congratulations the Senior Girls Soccer team. They captured the Southern Conference Championship by beating KVHS 1-0 on Tuesday. The girls played extremely well and deserve a pat on the back, they are a great group to work with, all 23 of them. The team finished the regular season with 10 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie.

The girls will host the Regional game this Saturday in Sussex.

Daily Announcements for Tuesday, October 20th 2009

Reminder to band students: Band practice is cancelled for this afternoon.

The Improv team will meet today at 3:30 in the theatre.

Auditions for the one-act play “The Audition” were held today at noon in Mrs. Hills Art room.

Last night in Girlf’s field Hockey, Sussex defeated Saint John High 2-0. Sabrina Rodgers scored the 2 goals for Sussex and Megan Mitton recorded the shut out. Special thanks goes out to the Sussex Sonics Football Team for their supportful sonic boom. Thanks boys and great job girls.

Daily Announcements for Monday, October 19th 2009

Auditions for the one act play “The Audition” will be held tomorrow, at lunch in the theater. No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome. Please have a monologue ready, but it does not have to be memorized. If you have any questions, please see Alannah Scott.

JV Girls Basketball tryouts start tomorrow right ater school at 3:45. Come on out! All grade 9 and 10 girls are welcome. Also Mr. McAleenan’s Tuesday morning shoot around has been cancelled.

Today will be the first day of the Rock band competition. Everyone is welcome to come watch and all bands are to see the schedule on the theater doors.

Anyone iterested in starting an acoustic guitar club please come to Mr. Chambers room in the wood shop on Tuesday at noon.

The SRHS field hockey team finished the weekend witha 2-0 win over Simonds and 1-0 win over Saint John High. Megan Mitton played great in net to record the two shut-outs, and Brittany Mallory had all 3 goals for Sussex. Brittany has requested that her fans please refrain from asking for autographs during class time. Tonight the team finishes its season, here at home, against Saint John High. Come out at 5:00 to show your Sonic Spirit.

On Saturday, your SRHS football Sonics kept their hold on first place in the NBIAA 10-man footbal league with a 49-0 victory over the Harbour View Vikings. The win brought the Sonics’ record to a perfect 6-0-0. The win was an imprtant one for the Sonics, who would, with a first place finish, secure a bye in the first round of the playoffs as well as a home playoff game. Once again the defence came up big, shutting out the opposition for the fourth time in six games. The defence forced and recovered four Viking fumbles and also earned three quarterback sacks. The Sonics opened up an early 22-0 first quarter lead and led 28-0 at halftime. The Sonics (6-0-0) complete regular season competition this Saturday, October 24, on the road to play the Rothesay High Redhawks (2-3-1). Kickoff time is 1:00.

Daily Announcements for Wednesday October 7th 2009

Be sure to come out to our Video and Laser Dance tonight at 7:00. The cost is $5.00.

Any girls interested in playing High School Girls Basketball, there is a brief meeting tonight at 7. You can just stop in at the gym then head over to the dance.

There will be a girl’s soccer game tonight here in Sussex at 5 against Rothesay. Come out and support your Sonics!

Sussex Baptist Church Youth Group is still on for Thursday evening even though there is no school.

Don’t forget, because this is your last reminder for the week! This Saturday is Homecoming at SRHS!!! Help spread the word to all SRHS graduates – brothers, sisters, cousins and neighbours – to come home this weekend for Thanksgiving and for exciting SRHS football! Your first place football Sonics go helmet-to-helmet here at home this Saturday, October 10, against the Simonds Seabees in Game 5 of the NBIAA football season – kick-off is at 1pm.

Admission is free and a canteen is on site for your enjoyment – hotdogs, drinks, football tee-shirts, game programs and more are all available at the canteen. It is one of two remaining regular season home games, so don’t miss out! Cheer on your school team as they march toward provincial playoffs!

Daily Announcements for Tuesday, October 6th 2009

Any girls interested in playing high school basket ball – there is a meeting Wednesday evening at 7 pm in the gym.

All players trying out for the tam are invited to attend and are asked to bring their insurance liability cards, signed by a parent. Daily Announcements for October 1 2009

A large hard covered book was found and turned into the office last week. If it is yours please collect it at the office a.s.a.p.

Terry Fox Run WILL be happening tomorrow during 1st and 2nd periods. There will be a BBQ at lunch with Ice-cream and a T-shirt raffle.

Attention school athletes – Please have your registration money and form into Mr. Barton or your coach by Monday morning or you could be asked to sit out until the money and form are received.

Students interested in travelling to New York City this March Break please see Mrs. Hill a.s.a.p. First deposits are due October 8th.

The SRHS field hockey team hosts Rothesay Netherwood tonight at 5:00. Come out and show your Sonic spirit. The team would also like to with Brittany Mallory a very happy birthday. Reminder: There is a practice today at 3:50.

The varsity girls softball team were defeated in the southern conference softball semi-final game 12-2 last night. The coaching staff would like to say thank you for a very memorable 2009 season. Players are reminded to bring their uniforms to school on Friday as we have a team picture at noon.

Want to be in the coolest thing ever?!?!? Of course you do! All you have to do is find your own monologue and come to auditions, at noon this Friday, October 2nd for the one act play Hard Candy directed by Kendra Sabine and Morganne Perry.
