The list is now posted for those students who have been selected to take Outdoor Pursuits 110 for next year. The list is on the office window. Students are reminded to get their $75 in to Mr. Barton ASAP.

There was an Acoustic guitar club meting today at noon.

We have had a number of students who need help with their cover letters and resumes so we will be holding a workshop on Monday, May 3rd at 12:30 in room 1119 (Mr. Jeffrey’s room). You will need to bring a summary of your work experience (volunteer and paid) and a list of activities you are involved in. Please sign up in the guidance centre waiting area.

Just a reminder that 16/20 youth group will be meeting once again with Pastor Phil at Sussex Wesleyan Church. Don’t miss out on the action. Doors open at 6:30pm.

Drama fest – Mrs. Hill was in the theatre at noon to collect money and forms and to deal with costuming and props issues. Boy Meets Girl begins at 4 pm and Guys and Dolls please be dressed and ready to run at 6 pm sharp.

There is a softball club meeting tonight right after the volley ball match – around 7:30.

There was a Dance Committee meeting, a Metal Club meeting and an Acoustic guitar club meeting today at noon.

The SRHS Lady Sonic Varsity Volleyball team defeated St. Mac’s last night 2-0. In the first match the Sonics won by scores of 25-13, 25-14 and in the second match the Sonics won by scores of 25-11 and 25-18. Annie Blanchard had 12 kills and Madeline Belding recorded 10. The Sonics travel to Harborview on Thursday. Good Luck Ladies!

There will be Boll Hockey Inter-murals stating next week. Sign up is started today and will end Friday. If you want to join sign up before Fridays. You need a team of at least 4 to join. Sign up is in the gym. Everyone is welcome.

Any girls currently in grade 9, 10, 11 who are interested in playing summer softball and high school softball in the fall are attended a very important meeting today right after announcements in Mr. Belyea’s room.

The SRHS Lady Sonics Varsity Volleyball team finished in second place at their own Invitational Tournament on Saturday. The Sonics finished the round robin with a 5-1 record. Defeated Leo Hayes in the semi-final and then lost to FHS in the final. The Sonics host St. Malachy’s at 6pm tonight.

Attention all rugby players – practice is right after school today.

Acoustic guitar club met today at noon.

Dramafest announcement – forms are past due and money must be in to Mrs. Hill tomorrow if you wish to attend Dramafest. All Guys and Dolls leads with speaking parts please met today at noon in the theatre. All Guys and Dolls going to Fredericton are invited to a dress rehearsal of Boy Meets Girl at 4pm tomorrow followed by a mandatory final dress rehearsal of Guys and Dolls at 6pm tomorrow.

Students signed up for the Atlantic Health Science Fair tomorrow will need to load their bus at 8:40 am . Students will return to the school during period 3.

SRHS welcomes back our 4 grade 10 students from the Quebec Exchange. Scott Michaud, Taylor Belding, Julia Belliveau and Jessica McKellar. We are glad to have you back at SRHS.

On Saturday, the provincial trades skills competition was held at Oromocto High School. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Rideout’s student, Brandon Muir took a gold medal in Electrical, which qualifies him to go onto the Nationals in Warterloo, Ontario. Mr. White’s student, Adam Keirstead took a silver medal in Automotive and Mr. Chamber’s student, Mike Tabor took a bronze medal in Mill and Cabinet. Considering this was SRHS’s first time at the competition since it started approximately 15 years age, SRHS cleaned up! Congratulations to these talented Sonics and their teachers.

Today was an In-School Day for Coop students.

There was a Safe Grad meeting, and an Envirothon members meeting today at noon.

A reminder to all rugby players that there is a practice tonight after school. Also, any players who ordered socks and shorts went to see Mr. Sherwood at noon.

There will be a very important meeting for all girls currently in grade 9, 10 and 11 on Tuesday April 27. Any of these students interested in playing softball this summer and next fall on the school team are to meet in Mr. Belyea’s room 2057 right after the announcements.

Any member of the JV Girls Basketball team interested in buying a team jacket should attended a very brief meeting in Mr. Belyea’s room today.

Eco Fact of the Day – Number of Earths that would be needed if people worldwide lived like the average North American: more that 5!!! Planets saved if all of those people ate locally: 1. Think green people!

There was a Guys and Dolls drama fest meeting, an acoustic guitar club meeting and a student council meeting all at noon today.

Our Sonics boys rugby team lost a hard fought match against the Belleisle Bears last night 22-12. Scoring tries for the Sonics were Corey MacMillan and Sam Murray, while Ira Sheasby added a convert. Well done boys!!!

SRHS Drag team washed vacuumed cars today from 9 to 3 for donations. They are selling tickets for free drivers training, with no expiry date. Tickets will be sold in the lobby during noon at a cost of a dollar each or 3 for $2.

Eco Fact of the Day…Did you know the average North American will drink enough cans of pop in a lifetime to stretch 5km? That’s 50 football fields!! Isn’t it time we think about recycling???

The SRHS Lady Sonics pushed their unbeaten streak to 16 matches with wins over Simonds last night. The Sonics won the first match by scores of 25-9 and 25-12. In the second match the Sonics won by scores of 25-11 and 25-16. Annie Blanchard had 15 kills and 6 ace serves. Kendra Saline had had 8 kills and 5 ace serves.

Congratulations to Geertje Pijnenberg for her successful participation in the District 6 oratorical competition. Geertje placed first for the grade 9 competition, and third overall, and so she will be representing SRHS at this year’s provincial competition. Best of luck, we’re all rooting for you.

Reach for the Top tam members attending this Saturday’s provincials should have picked up a permission slip today at the beginning of lunch. However there will be no practice today. Next practice will be tomorrow at 12:25 with Mr. Dykerman.

All boys rugby players are reminded to meet by the gym after school today for their game against Belleisle.

There will be a student loan presentation tonight at 7pm in the SRHS theater for grade 12 students and their parents.

Eco Fact of the Day: Did you know packaging makes up 33% of the trash that we make? In Germany manufacturers are required to take back and reuse or recycle their packaging materials.

There was a boys rugby players meeting, a Green Club and Envirothan meeting and a Safe Grad meeting all today at noon.

There is no band after school today.

Midget baseball is cancelled today due to rain.

Congratulations to Samuel Wilson for placing second in the Intermediate Fife Science’s Division at the Fundy Regional Science Fair.

The Sonics men’s volleyball team hosted their annual tournament and finished the day on top. They defeated OHS in the semi-finals and SHS in the finals. Great job boys! The boys host Simonds High tonight.

The Green Club would like to invite all of you to celebrate Earth Day with them all week. We encourage you to have a litter less lunch all week. Come purchase a Earth Day bracelet and button at noon in the lobby. An Eco-Art piece will be revealed this week. Ask your teachers to bring your class to a presentation on the issues of drinking water around the world. Participate in the school grounds clean up on Wednesday. Come taste our delicious Earth Day cupcakes on sale Thursday. With all these activities you are sure to find something to celebrate Earth Day!

Eco fact of the day: Did you know recycling a single can could save enough energy to power a TV for 3 hours? During a hockey game, Scotiabank Place recycles an average of 5000 beer cans, which equals approximately 15000 hours of TV viewing power.

Grad Wear is on sale this week in the lobby, Hoodies will be $35 and long sleeve T-shirts will be sold for $24. Don’t hesitate, pre-order this week because they won’t be sold next week.

Grad fees are also being collected again this week starting Tuesday. After Friday the fees will be going up in price so get your $30 in this week.

Our first Sonic of the week this week is Liam Keith-Jacques for placing 1st in the Provincial Chess tournament in grade 10. Liam also was one of the winners of the grade 10 English oratorical competition this week at SRHS. Ashley Vail is being celebrated for also placing for grade 10 in the SRHS oratorical competition. Patrick Belliveau and Geertje Pijenburg are being celebrated for their success in grade 9 at the SRHS oratorical competition as well as Chelsey George and Brenaugh Horton for grade 11. Congrats to all of our Sonics of the Week.

A pair of sunglasses was left on the bus last night after Beauty and the Beast. Please come to the office to claim them.

The awards banquet for the Sonics hockey teams was held last night. Winning awards on the girls team were Amber Conway for MVP, Kayla Pollock for top defensive player, Emily Hawthorne for rookie of the year, Haylee Rae for sportsmanship and academics, Lynn Symington received the coaches award and Morgan Robinson for most improved. Winning awards on the boys team were Jeremy Walker for MVP, Mike brown for top defenseman, Colin Urquhart for rookie of the year, Trevor Seymour for sportsmanship and academics as well as player’s choice, Kevin Armstrong received the coaches award and Robert Scott for most improved. Congrats to all winners.

There was a Guys and Dolls DramaFest meeting today at noon.

Yesterday, grade 11 students from our school attended JobFest at the Trade and Convention Centre in Saint John. It was a great day and 4 of our students won prizes for their interview. There were 34 prizes given out of 400 students in attendance. Congratulations to Ashlyn Briggs, Dana Lynch, Brendan McPhee, and Elaine McCullum. And thank you to all participants, you represented SRHS well. Great job!!
