Mental Health Awareness Week Announcement for Thursday, May 9th submitted by Mrs. Byers, Guidance:

In taking care of your mental health, consider these key characteristics when assessing your own mental health:

1. Ability to enjoy life – Can you live in the moment and appreciate the “ now”?

2. Resilience- Can you manage stress of a serious life event without losing your optimism and sense of perspective?

3. Balance – Can you recognize when you might be devoting too much time to one aspect, at the expense of others?

4. Self- actualization – Do recognize and develop your strengths so that you can reach your full potential?

5. Flexibility – When problems arise, can you change your expectations – of life, others, yourself – to solve the problem and feel better?

By reflecting on these characteristics, you can recognize your strengths, and identify areas where your level of mental fitness could be improved.

Grad fees are now being collected in the school office at noon hour. Also Grade 12 students, please return the yellow media permission form (you will receive this tomorrow in Advisory) by next Wednesday so we may include your name in the newspapers, etc.

The last day for Grade 10 students to apply for NBTap (NB Teen Apprenticeship Program) is tomorrow in Guidance.

Next week is Mental Health Awareness Week and next Tuesday, May 7, is Child and Youth Mental Health Day. We would like to see everyone wear green to support the campaign. In the 1800s, the colour green was used to brand people who were labelled “insane.” The Children’s Mental Health Community decided to continue using the colour green but with a completely different focus. Green signifies new life, new growth, and new beginnings. So, next Tuesday, please show your support by wearing green.
